KNGM is sold

Another Emporia radio station has sold.

KNGM, a Christian station on the air since 1987, will be owned by Great Plains Broadcasting of Meade. Great Plains operates KJIL, broadcast on 99.1 out of Meade and 105.7 out of Herington.

Since Friday, KJIL also has broadcast on KNGM’s 91.9 frequency from Emporia.

When KNGM was first launched in the mid-1980s, there were only a handful of Christian stations in Kansas, according to Steve Pearson, general manager of the station. “The segment of the Christian market has just been overwhelming and, as with all things, we’ve got to change to keep up.

“This change will allow local Christian radio to still be maintained in the area.”

The change does move programming around, however. Focus on the Family now airs at 10:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. weekdays, and Adventures in Odyssey airs at 8 p.m. weekdays and 10:30 a.m. Saturdays.

Pearson said area churches are encouraged to continue to send information about upcoming events for announcements on the air.
