Laura Rivas, 21, was treated at Newman Regional Health and released early Sunday morning after a two-vehicle accident in the 600 block of West Highway 50.

According to information from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Rivas was driving a 1988 Mercury west on U.S. 50 and had completed a required lane change to avoid a tow truck that was loading another vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road.

Rivas’ car was struck from behind by a westbound 2007 Toyota passenger car driven by Bryan Turpin, 27, of Emporia.

A passenger in the Rivas vehicle, Adrian Meza, 25, was not injured.
