The Lebo Wolves handed the Waverly Bulldogs their first loss of the season and first loss in nearly two years in the third week of District play with a 36-20 victory Friday at Lebo.
The Wolves’ Brandon Speer began the scoring with a 74-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The score was quickly answered by the Bulldogs’ Dakota Foster and his 37-yard touchdown run.
At the end of the first half, Lebo led by only two points, but the Wolves steadily increased their lead into the third and fourth quarters.
The Wolves’ Cameron Smith dominated the scoring in the second half. Smith was responsible for all three of his team’s final touchdowns, leading Lebo in rushing with seven carries for 149 yards.
“I’m extremely proud of the way our guys performed,” Lebo coach Butch Jones said. “We had five fumbles and lost four, and that was huge for us, but we were able to make a great comeback.”
The game leaves the Wolves with a 2-1 District record with one game remaining until the playoffs.
The Bulldogs have a 3-1 District record, which all but gives them a spot in the playoffs.
