Free computer class

The public is invited to a free class on word processing from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Flint Hills Technical College Library. There will be time for additional practice on your own and several people will be available for assistance and questions, according to the news release from the Emporia Public Library. The class will work with Microsoft Word 2003, but information can be applied to other word processing programs.

Janet Anderson, librarian at FHTC, will teach the class. Follow-up classes will be offered Nov. 14 and 15. Registration can be made by calling 340-6462, but is not required. For more information about classes, dates and places, see http://skyways.lib.ks.us/library/emporia/resources.htm.

Genealogy Work Night

The Flint Hills Genealogical Society and Emporia Public Library are offering a Genealogy Work Night from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday for new and veteran researchers to “join together for a night of food, fun and family research” at the library, said the news release. Casual instruction will be available for new researchers who want help in getting started. Veteran researchers can explore the many new materials that have been added to the library’s genealogy collection throughout the past year. The library’s computers on the second floor also will be available. Participants may bring a snack or covered dish to share. Beverages will be provided. Information: 340-6452.
