Kansas high school and junior high rodeo members from all over the state will be competing this weekend at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Emporia.
The rodeo will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Tickets are $7 for one day or $10 for both days. Kids 9 years old and younger are free and 10 years to 12th grade are $1.
There will be numerous cowboys and cowgirls competing from the area.
High school members will be competing in bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, goat tying, saddle bronc riding, pole bending, team roping, barrel racing, bull riding and cutting.
The junior high events will include calf roping, breakaway roping, goat tying, chute dogging, pole bending, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.
Four members from the area are in the top 5 in the state. Angela Bartley is fourth and Cheyenne Veatch is fifth in barrels, Taylor Hollond is fourth in poles and Jake R. Miller is third in team roping.
