Charlie Young celebration at Flint Hills Lanes
Past and present bowlers are welcome to stop by Flint Hills Lanes between 9:30 and 11 a.m. on Saturday to honor Charlie Brooks as the 2007 Youth Coach of the Year and also thank him for the many years of service Charlie has given to the youth of Emporia and surrounding area.
Soccer game canceled
Emporia High’s boys soccer game against Blue Valley that was scheduled for 6:30 tonight at TRYSA has been canceled.
The game will not be made up.
3 locals participate in Redman Triathlon
Three local participants competed in the Redman Triathlon in Oklahoma City on Sept. 22.
Tony Menke of Neosho Rapids, Sam Tovar of Emporia and Dane Cook of Emporia each completed the half-iron distance triathlon that consists of 1.2 miles of swimming, 56 miles of biking and 13.2 miles of running, all in one day.
Menke was the top overall finisher from the area, completing the event in a time of 6 hours, 6 minutes, 52 seconds, which placed him 92nd out of 263 competitors. He also finished 8th in the 25-29-year-old division.
Tovar finished 116th overall in a time of 6:16:09, good for a 3rd-place finish in the Clydesdale division.
Cook finished 203rd out of 263, which placed him second in the 60-64-year-old division with a time of 7:03:22.
