“Not in Our House,” a program about social hosting and underage drinking, will be presented at 10 a.m. Oct. 25 in the jury selection room of the Lyon County Courthouse.

The program is open to the public.

The program, sponsored by Emporians for Drug Awareness, will feature a number of community leaders, including Sen. Jim Barnett, Rep. Don Hill, School Superintendent John Heim, Emporia High School Principal Scott Sheldon, Interim Police Chief Mike Lopez, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Pat Stevenson, Flint Hills Technical College President Dean Hollenbeck, and Lyon County Attorney Marc Goodman.

Social hosting is defined as “providing and/or serving alcohol to a young person who is under age 21,” according to a press release from EDA.

“Hosting can take place in a party-like atmosphere or anytime someone provides alcohol to young people and their friends for the purpose of drinking,” the news release stated. “It can even extend to parents and homeowners who are not home, out-of-town or unaware that underage drinking is taking place in their home.”

Hosting is a Class A person misdemeanor and carries a minimum fine of $1,000.

More information may be had by calling EDA, 341-2450.
