“Little Shop of Horrors,” Emporia State University’s 35th Homecoming Scholarship Musical, opens tonight with shows through Sunday.
The musical tells the story of Seymour, a down-on-his-luck floral assistant who becomes an overnight success when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious taste for fresh blood. It is an affectionate and hilarious parody of 1960s horror movies.
In the ESU production directed by Jim Bartruff, Dylan Lewis of Wichita plays Seymour and Leah Logan of Leavenworth portrays his love, Audrey. The plant is voiced by Jake Narverud from Meriden. Other cast members are DaKneisha Blount of Kansas City, Derek Jensen of Dodge City, Ian Knodel of Bismarck, ND, Eric Luchen of Overland Park, Brandi Smith of Emporia, Emily Warren of Wichita and Emily Young of Parsons.
The curtain goes up on performances in Albert Taylor Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $15 for orchestra seats, $12 for balcony and $8 for students in the balcony. All proceeds from the show support scholarships in theatre and music.
