Faith’s Oktoberfest

The Faith Lutheran Church will have the 17th annual Oktoberfest from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave. The cost is $6 for a bratwurst or barbecued brisket meal, which includes two sides, dessert and beverage; or $3 for a hot dog meal, with chips, dessert and beverage. There also will be a silent auction, homemade crafts, homemade candy, Pie Shoppe, raffle baskets and quilt and gift baskets. Tickets may be purchased at the door or call 342-3590.

Church bazaar

The Lebo United Methodist Women will have the annual bazaar on Saturday at the church fellowship hall, West Fourth and Spruce in Lebo. From 7 to 8:30 a.m., the Men’s Breakfast group will serve sausage gravy, biscuits, hashbrowns, juice and coffee. The cinnamon roll and coffee bar, along with the bazaar, will open at 8:30 a.m. The bazaar booths will feature fall and Christmas decorations and ornaments, needlework, handmade items, baked goods and a men’s variety booth. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m., featuring soups, sandwiches, pies and coffee. A turkey and roast beef dinner with “all the trimmings” and pie will be served at 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit local and area mission work sponsored by the United Methodist Women.

Potatoes and soup for church

The Olpe United Methodist Church will be host for a Potato Bar and Soup Supper from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday. There will be baked potatoes, chili or broccoli-cheese soup, shredded cheese, bacon bits, relishes, dessert and beverages. Free-will offerings will be accepted for the church building fund.

Cheerleaders rake leaves

The EHS Cheer Squad will be in the Coronado Hills area on Oct. 27 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. to rake leaves. They will rake leaves in the Country Club Heights area from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 4. If requested, they can go to other areas. The Cheer Squad will provide the man-power, rakes and trash bags, but the homeowner will be responsible for the disposal of the leaves. The cheerleaders are asking for a minimum donation of $10 a yard. Call the fundraising chairmen, Kathy Howard at 794-1323 or Angie Landwehr at 343-9144. Call and leave the address and workers “will guarantee to show up,” said the news release.

DARE Carnival

The 19th annual Carnival to Benefit Emporians for Drug Awareness will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Emporia Aerie and Auxiliary 2587, 1130 E. Ninth Ave. There will be games, door prizes, cake walk, face painting and the Haunted House, sponsored this year by the SADD group and the Messiah Lutheran Church. At 2 p.m., there will be a costume contest for all age groups, birth to adults. Foods, available during the carnival, include hot dogs, chili dogs,chili and potato soup, chili pies, barbecue sandwiches, nachos, cookies, pop, coffee, tea and bottled water.

Sardis celebration

Sardis Congregational Church will have a “Harvest Celebration” dinner after the worship serviced on Oct. 28. Friends and neighbors are invited to join the congregation. Those attending are to bring their own table service and a favorite dish. Beverages and bread will be provided.
