Many people wouldn’t have the patience for the tedious work Sheri Brooks does. But that’s why she makes a difference at ESU. Brooks, this month’s recipient of the You Make A Difference Award, has worked in ESU’s registration department for 6 years.
It is Brooks’ job to prepare and distribute the undergraduate catalog, which means working with different departments around campus to make sure everything in the catalog is correct.
“I really enjoy the sense of accomplishment I get when a large project is completed or when I am able to help someone sort through a problem and find a workable solution,” she says.
Emporia State has recently developed a new online enrollment system that has meant great change for Brooks, but she maintains a positive outlook. Brooks said she believes it is important to maintain a positive attitude and be professional and courteous in all situations, and others have noticed.
“With all of the changes which Banner has brought to the department of registration, Sheri was (and continues to be) inundated with many new tasks and stresses. Every time I would call over to Sheri during these times, she would project nothing but kindness and patience, no matter how bogged down she was or how ridiculous my questions were,” said Mary Noll, Brooks’ nominator.
Noll adds, “People like Sheri are far and few between, and she deserves special kudos for handling all that she has.”
