One man was rescued from an apartment house fire Tuesday morning in central Emporia.
Fire Chief Jack Taylor said Firefighters were called at 8:20 a.m. to the fire at 906 Market St. by a resident of a downstairs apartment who thought they saw flames coming from upstairs.
When fire crews arrived to the building, which is owned by Lawrence Tucker Jr., they found a man trapped on the top floor. The person, a 49-year-old man whose name has not been released, was conscious when he was taken from the house. He was taken to Newman Regional Health and later transferred to The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. His condition was not available this morning.
The fire, which started and was confined to an upstairs apartment, remains under investigation.
The building sustained heavy smoke and water damage.
