Melvern festival
Melvern Pride is having a full day of Fall Fest activities on Oct. 27. A craft festival will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Melvern Community Center. From 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m, the local 4-H club will operate a concession stand at the Community Center. Autumn Fest, an outdoor country jubilee of blue grass, gospel and country music, will be held from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. “one and one-half miles north of Melvern, east of Jerry Kramer’s house.” The entertainers include the Barnyard Boys, Rachel Belchar, Jim Frye and the Kirchner Family. Suggested donations are $8 for adults and $3 for students in grades 1-12. Participants are to bring lawn chairs and “enjoy fun, barbecued meat and funnel cakes at the concession stands,” said the news release. (In case of inclement weather this event will be held in the high school gymnasium at Melvern).
At 7 p.m., a free hayrack ride to a haunted house will be provided. Those who wish to ride the hayracks should meet at the Melvern Community Center. Rides, for all ages, will begin every 30 minutes. This event is sponsored by the Marais des Cygnes Valley FFA organization. Free cookies and hot chocolate will be served at the center after the hayrack rides. Information: Jim Irey at (785) 549-3678.
