EUREKA — Scott Cheever’s mother faces a preliminary hearing Friday on felony charges that she attempted to influence jurors in her son’s capital murder trial.
Brenda Sue Freisner, 43, remained in jail Monday on two counts of trying to intimidate jurors and another charge of criminal threat, according to court records.
Cheever, meanwhile, watched lawyers question potential jurors for a second week to determine who will sit on the panel that will ultimately decide his fate in the fatal shooting of Greenwood County Sheriff Matt Samuels.
Samuels, 42, died Jan. 19, 2005, while trying to serve a warrant on Cheever, who now faces the death penalty or life in prison if convicted of capital murder.

A mother trying to save her son. If she would go to such a length as to threaten a potential juror to hunt him down like a dog if he voted for the death penalty, I wonder to what lengths she went to get her son off using and making meth?

It is easy to see where young Mr. Cheever received his social skills.

Scott deserves everything that's coming to him and more. If his mother is threatening the lives of others, I wonder where he learned it from. He had no right to take the life of Sheriff Samuels, I believe any jury would feel the same way and give him what he deserves.
RIP Matt.

The whole thing is just sad. What a waste of not just Sheriff Samuels life but Scott Cheevers. I wonder how he would have turned out without drugs? I know one of his uncles and he's a great guy and his family is devastated by what happened.

Gotta agree with the first couple posts - apple didn't fall far from the tree did it?! I wonder if the punishments for breaking our laws were more painful (eye for an eye anyone) if Mr. Cheevers would have thought twice knowing if he killed someone that he should die by the same method. Hmmmmm
