A two-story Reading home was destroyed by a fire that occurred early Sunday morning.
In a press release, the Lyon County sheriff’s office said at 12:38 a.m. Sunday, dispatch received a call of a structure fire at 1865 Road 200 in Reading.
The owner of the home is Sammy Calvert. He arrived at his home around 12:30 a.m. Sunday and noticed a glow coming from the front window and called 911.
When Lyon County sheriff deputies arrived, they attempted to help put out the fire, which seemed to have started in the front room. The fire was in the Reading fire district and mutual aid came from Emporia, Hartford, Neosho Rapids and Lebo fire departments.
The home was a total loss. The cause is still underdetermined, but it is suspected that the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
