HAYS — Lisa Brumbaugh, director of the Emporia State University Kansas Small Business Development Center, was selected as the 2007 State Star of the Kansas Small Business Development Center Network, according to Wally Kearns, state director.

“I am pleased to recognize Brumbaugh for her extraordinary commitment to her co-workers, Emporia State University, the KSBDC, her clients and the small business community,” Kearns said in a news release.

Brumbaugh has been working for the ESU KSBDC for 19 years.

Kearns said Brumbaugh is an active part of the community. She is a member of, and served as a committee member for Emporia Main Street and the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce.

Brumbaugh was involved for many years in the American Business Women’s Association and was the organization’s 1999 Woman of the Year.

The news release said the center at ESU has become a key component of community and economic development. Brumbaugh’s leadership ability and style are the primary reasons for this level of success, said Kearn.

“I’m truly honored to accept this award and to be part of an organization with such a high level of integrity and passion for helping small businesses and entrepreneurs,” Brumbaugh said in the news release.

She received the award last month in Denver at the annual conference of the Association of Small Business Development Centers.

The Small Business Development Center Network, an arm of the U.S. Small Business Administration, is a partnership uniting private enterprise, government, higher education and local nonprofit economic development organizations.
