Marais des Cygnes Valley slams White City, 50-0

Saturday, October 13, 2007

Marais des Cygnes Valley rolled from the onset, putting together its best defensive performance of the season in a 50-0 victory over White City.

The game was ended in the fourth quarter because of the 45-point mercy rule.

The Trojans held White City (2-5) and quarterback Mark Morgan to just 65 total yards in the shutout.

“The kids did an amazing job,” MdCV coach Trenton Douglas said. “That’s about as well as we can play defensively.”

MdCV’s offense was once again paced by Chisom Spencer, who rushed 28 times for 227 yards and four touchdowns. The senior now has 1,454 yards in seven games this season, good for an average of 207.7 yards per game.

“We give him the ball, and he just goes,” Douglas said. “He’s one of those special players.”

Pat Rager provided a nice complement to Spencer, as he had nine rushes for 76 yards and two TDs.

Brandon Litch provided MdCV’s other score.

MdCV (3-4) plays host to Burlingame next week.

Lebo 48, Hartford 12

Lebo rebounded well from its first loss of the season last week, taking down Hartford 48-12 Friday night in Hartford.

The game ended after the third quarter because of lightning.

The Jaguars put up the first points on a 1-yard touchdown run by Adam Ewy, but the Wolves answered right after that.

Brandon Speer provided a good return on the ensuing kickoff, and Cameron Smith finished the drive with a 1-yard TD run.

It would be the start of a scoring onslaught for Lebo, as the Wolves scored 48 unanswered points.

“I thought all the kids responded really well,” Lebo coach Butch Jones said. “We executed pretty well.”

Adam Laflin contributed a 5-yard touchdown run to start off Lebo’s 32-point second quarter.

Wolves quarterback Blake Jones helped with the three others, throwing TD passes of 28, 38 and 9 yards to push the lead to 40-6 at half.

Jones finished the game nearly perfect, completing 10 of 11 passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a 58-yard TD run in the second half.

His only incompletion came on a pass off the fingertips of a receiver.

Laflin had two of the receiving touchdowns, while Smith had the other.

Both Smith and Speer led Lebo with 48 rushing yards apiece.

Olpe 26, Yates Center 7

The Olpe Eagles regained a winning record, defeating Yates Center by 19 points.

However, the near shutout wasn’t played quite how Eagles coach Chris Schmidt hoped it would be.

“We made enough plays to win the ballgame,” Schmidt said, “but I didn’t think we played particularly well. We still have some areas we need to work on.”

Josh Klumpe and quarterback Matt Redeker were two of the big contributors in Friday’s game. The seniors began the Eagles’ scoring with an 18-yard pass connection in the first quarter and finished it with a 19-yard TD completion in the third.

Overall, Redeker completed seven passes for a total of 162 yards, while Klumpe finished with two touchdown catches for 37 yards.

The Eagles’ Josh Lambert also was a major contributor, leading his team in rushes with a total of 19 carries for 113 yards.
