Council Grove

The Council Grove Republican reported that Sandy Kline has accepted the position of director of the Council Grove Assisted Living facility. Dr. Robert Brooks, the developer made the announcement.

The new building will open on Nov. 7.

Kline is a resident of Council Grove and has been the director of nursing for 15 years at Peterson Health Care Center, a 54-bed nursing home in Osage City.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that the Burlington High School chapter of Future Farmers of America played host to 237 students in the Kansas southeast and east central districts at a state land judging contest held recently on land approximately seven miles east of Burlington. The land is owned by the Otis Jones family.

The Burlington and Lebo chapters of FFA sent 17 students to the event, where 30 schools were represented.

Burlington

The Coffey County Republican reported that Burlington residents will go to the polls on Oct. 30 to decide if the retail sale of alcoholic liquor or cereal malt beverage will be allowed on Sundays in Burlington.

The Burlington City Council took no action recently to repeal Ordinance No. 759, which pass Aug. 1 that allows the retail sale of cereal malt beverage and alcoholic liquor on Sundays.

A group of Burlington residents, led by Christian Church or Burlington Pastor Gordon VanZile successfully filed a petition on Sept. 27 with Coffey County Election Office Angie Kirchner requesting a referendum.
