Each Friday, The Gazette salutes those who make Emporia and the surrounding area a better place to live and work. Give these folks a pat on the back ....
Chase Sanchez, who was named to the National Schoolboy Freestyle All-Dual Wrestling Team. He went 5-0 in a freestyle national tournament.
• The Emporia High School freshman football team, which remains undefeated. They have a 7-0 record.
• The Emporia Fire Department, which organized a Fire Prevention Extravaganza. The event had demonstrations on fire prevention and safety. The theme for the event was Practice Your Escape Plan.
• The EHS boys and girls cross country teams, which both won the El Dorado Invitational.
• Eric McCabe, who entered the United States Disc Golf Championship and finished third. The finish earned him a $2,625 check.
• The Rev. Michael Paddy, who will move to Emporia from Seattle to run the Emporia Rescue Mission. Paddy was running the City Team Ministries in Seattle.
F Donna Clopton, Dr. Karen Kelly, Herb Kuhn, and Victor Spinski, who will be honored as Distinguished Alumni during Emporia State University’s Homecoming week.
