There will be no State appearances for the Emporia High girls golf team this season, as the Lady Spartans ended their season Monday in Regional play at Wichita’s Clapp Golf Course.
Emporia finished sixth out of eight teams at the Regional, totaling a team score of 448 to place ahead of Wichita Heights (510) and Valley Center (542). Kapaun Mt. Carmel (329) and Manhattan (347) took first and second, respectively, to earn the team qualifications for the State tournament.
Maryann Bennett was the top finisher for EHS, finishing just two strokes away from a potential individual State qualification after firing off a 97. Kelli Coldiron of Wichita Southeast shot a 95 and was the final individual qualifier. Bennett’s score was good enough to place her in a tie for 15th.
Hannah Watkins was the next Emporia finisher, carding a 104 to come in 22nd place.
Melissa Heinitz shot a 122 and Makenzie Harder finished with a 125 to round out Emporia’s scoring, while Rachael Clopton shot a 128 and Seung-Yun Shin carded a 146.
