The longest beard category at Americus Days on Saturday was won by Laryl Worcester and the best shaped beard was won by Caleb Ekstrom. Judges for the contest were Linda Van Gundy and Jan Jensen.
Randal Karr won first place in the best bicyclist category and Lenny Brown placed second. The best pet and owner first-place winner was Shannon Ernst and second place was given to Lisa Preisner and Oreo. The judges were Kenny Baker and Jacquii Anderson.
Other parade winners were:
Judges’ Choice — first, Northern Heights High School Band directed by Bob Moews; second, Danny Bruch leading a longhorn steer with two riders.
Best float — first, Redneck Yacht Club; second, Save the Pool.
Best antique tractor — first, Dennis Schroeder; second, Cecil Cunningham.
Best dressed horse and rider, adult — first, Kelly Elbert; second, Evelyn Cunningham.
Best dressed horse and rider, youth under 16 — first, Keely and Kale Lane; second, Kelsey Bosch.
Best Classic car or truck — first, James and Vera Rhoads; second, Chris Britain.
Judges for the parade were Jeannette Stoll, Lynda Orton and Kay Gatewood.
The Emporia American Legion color guard from Ball McColm Post 5 led the parade, followed by the VFW Post 1980 color guard.
