Simona Rowley, Shepherdess for the local UMW groups in this area, was the guest speaker Sept. 12 at the Lebo UMW meeting at the United Methodist Church in Lebo. She talked about the challenges of continuing to be in mission to support women and children in communities, home and school, and the support of mission programs.
Rowley is a graduate student at Emporia State University studying for a counseling degree, whose goals include ministering to women in prisons. Members of the Lebo UMW served a salad supper before the program, which included hymn singing by the group, a vocal solo by Garrett Van Arsdale and duet with Jean Rowley, organist, and Linda Lane, pianist.
Laura Schlobohm, representing the leadership committee for Prison Ministry, made a request for personal grooming items for women in the Topeka prison.
The Lebo UMW held a meeting after the program, led by Oneta Lane and Betty Small. It was announced the Flinthills District meeting will be held Oct. 6 at Marysville.
A bazaar and dinner will be held on Oct. 20, and plans were being made to serve breakfast Oct. 28 for the Prison Ministry at Camp Chippewa.
Members who provided soap and shampoo for the Prison Ministry and thank-you notes from local teachers for their welcome gifts were read.
An ice cream social was held Sept. 23 to welcome back the Rev. Margaret Gunselman and to say farewell to church secretary Shawna Dutton and her family, who moved to the Kansas City area.
