The 23rd-ranked Emporia State volleyball team finished the weekend with a 3-1 record at the Lady Blues Classic after winning its two matches on Saturday.
ESU defeated Panhandle State 30-19, 30-11, 30-12, before taking down Abilene Christian 26-30, 30-14, 30-25, 30-24.
Mary Walczuk led the Hornets against Panhandle State, posting 12 kills on 13 attempts for a .923 attack percentage.
Arica Shepard added 16 kills, while Ting Liu had 44 assists.
Walczuk continued her hot hitting in the nightcap, notching 15 kills with a .500 attack percentage. In five matches last week, Walczuk had 65 kills and a .514 hitting percentage.
Shepard contributed a team-high 22 kills, which was two shy of her season high.
Brianne Boner also had 12 kills.
ESU (18-6) will go on the road to face Northwest Missouri State on Tuesday.

ESU men’s cross country 5th at Border States
Skyler Delmott’s 10th-place finish helped the Emporia State men to a fifth-place showing out of 27 teams at the Border States Championships in Evansville, Ind.
Delmott’s time of 26:34.90 put him in the top 10 out of 242 competitors.
Freshman Sloane Kern took 39th (27:34.11), while Brock Ternes was 44th (27:42.03). Marcus Summers (57th, 28:04.86) and Eric Wellman (28:14.71) were the other Hornets that cracked the top 100.
The ESU women placed 15th out of 25 teams without their top runner Jonel Rossbach.
Chelsea Clanton had the best time for ESU, finishing 70th in 20:56.89, while Morgan Frehe was 76th (21:05.93).
Some of the ESU men also competed at the McPherson Bulldog Invitational. At that race, Michael Stephens took fourth, Daniel Quillin was ninth and Kerek Mason finished 11th.

ESU soccer team
falls 3-0 to Drury
After battling Drury to a scoreless tie through the first 66 minutes, Emporia State allowed three goals in the final 24 minutes to fall 3-0 to the Panthers on Saturday in Springfield, Mo.
Kelsy Long finally broke through for Drury in the 68th minute, finishing a pass from Sarah Goodman.
Melissa Perry added a score in the 73rd minute, and Rachel Rasbold put in her first goal of the season in the 89th minute.
ESU was outshot 12-3. Amanda Miano, Shelley Marsh and Adriane Coburn provided the Hornets’ shots.
ESU keeper Megan Martin added five saves.
The Hornets (0-13) play host to Truman on Friday.
