The Flinthillls Mustangs opened the floodgates early by putting up 36 points in the first quarter and continuing on to end the game early against the Central-Burden Raiders.

Josh Brown started the Mustangs off with a 12-yard run, followed less than two minutes later by a 6-yard run by Shae Roberts.

Brown contributed his second touchdown with less than 6 minutes left in the first quarter, making the score 18-0.

To finish out the first quarter, Jeff Simpson delivered a 1-yard run for a touchdown followed by a two-point conversion run from Micah Womacks.

Womacks came through to deliver another short run to end the first quarter with a score of 36-0.

Central-Burden managed to hold Flinthills second- and third-quarter scoring to a minimum, but it wasn’t enough.

Even though the Mustangs’ scoring slowed in the second quarter, their defense continued to keep the Raiders scoreless.

Giving Flinthills its only points in the second quarter was Garret Breech with a 1-yard run.

Kent Riemann received a pass from Logan Fullerton to score the two-point conversion.

Northern Heights 14, West Franklin 6

Pulling out another close win, Northern Heights (4-2) sealed the game against West Franklin with little room to spare.

Heights had the only touchdown of the first half in the first quarter with a 65-yard pass from Kenneth Bronson to Levi Hizar. Adding the extra point was Stephen Nuessen.

With Heights holding a 7-0 lead at half, West Franklin needed its offense to dig in and get it points.

Finally answering Heights’ first-quarter touchdown, Matt Chanay ran in a 6-yard touchdown. Unable to convert the extra point, Heights held a 7-6 lead over West Franklin, which in the end didn’t matter as the Wildcats added to their advantage.

There were several key turning points in the game helping the Wildcats to their victory.

The last scoring drive of the fourth quarter gave Heights some breathing room.

Roman Murray delivered the final touchdown of the game on a 5-yard run, followed by another Nuessen kick.

Also, giving the Wildcats extra energy to finish the game, Ethan Grother picked off a pass on West Franklin’s final offensive drive.

“Our last scoring drive of the fourth quarter was really important,” Heights assistant coach Dustin Waters said.
