There are greater things in store for the 2007 Emporia State University Football Players

greater things??????? Have you looked at the remaining football schedule for this season? Maybe far more difficult would be a more accurate chacterization than greater things for the 2007 ESU football players. I am hopeful President Lane will take action with the football program administration and hold them accountable for the dramatic fall from 2003 playoff team to the MIAA bottomfeeder.

What action do you want them to take - gosh this is his first year as head coach. He didn't even get to capitalize on the recruiting process. Let's all realize that we are going to have a rough year, but we are building - takes time to build a great program - it doesn't just happen overnight. Although I do think some past presidents allowed certain people to stay way too long and that only hurt the program.

Hopefuly the problem isn't coach Higgins but he has to show he can recruit MIAA special players like the top tier MIAA team have. ESU can't win with undersized ,slow players even if they are nice kids. Also, AD Weiser has to get him the budget monies for his staff to find the players and bring them to emporia after the season and again after spring football in 2008. It does take time to build a good program but it must be monitored along the way or it will produce the same results 3-4 years from now and again be "all the coaches fault".

It will take some time ! He did not have a chance to get the recruits he need ! Just give him time and he will do fine! we need to get the community behind our Sports activities, What else is there for Emporians to do on a Saturday. I totally agree that the program needs more money to recruit players. But the key is to get D-1 players who are not getting any playing time. If you look at the top programs in the MIAA they get players from D-1 Programs . Now we will have Nebraska Omaha next next in our conference. It just got Harder !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bigearl2,
The best football players in the MIAA are not d-1 transfers but rather 4-5 year high school kids. Guys like Oman, Peterson and Flynn at NWMSU or Mark Smith at PSU or Kendall Ricketts at UCM or Graham & Allen at Missouri Western. Arguably the surprise player of the conference this year is Caleb Farabi of Pitt State who is a local Pittsburg, Ks. kid. Higgins must recruit and DEVELOP high school kids if he wants to win in this league and that takes cash. Hopefully president Lane will plow the ground for this to happen at ESU and only then will saturdays in emporia (welch stadium) go from negative to entertaining positive.
