The 2007 Memory Walk is right around the corner and there are new features in store for participants.
The walk will start at 2 p.m. on Oct. 14. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. at the Lane Whitmore Certified Public Accountants Building, 1420 C of E Drive.
New this year is Tribute Flags, which are multi-colored flags that may be purchased for $10 each. Flags may be flown at homes or will be on display the day of the walk.
“Each flag will pay tribute to the person of the donor’s choice,” said Paula Sauder, organizer of the walk.
Judy Moore made a quilt that people can sign up to win. A $5 donation is suggested for a chance to win the quilt, which incorporates previous walk T-shirts, Sauder said.
“The shades of purple, lavender and yellow are a delight to the eye,” Sauder added.
The quilt will be on display at Madelynn’s, 511 Commercial St., and other locations around Emporia.
For a $1 donation, paper flower forget-me-nots will be sold at Coburn’s Family Restaurant, 2708 W. 18th Ave., and Madelynn’s. The donor’s name or the name of a loved one will be placed on the flower and displayed.
Sauder said on the day of the walk, everybody can participate. The Solid Rock Band will play live music. There will be a children’s corner. Balloons By Ernie will liven up the area, Sauder said.
Sauder said walk participants raise money for the walk. Participants who raise more than $100 get a T-shirt; and participants who raise more than $500 are eligible for a sling pack; participants who raise $1,000 or more get a fleece blanket.
