Pancake feed

The Emporia Senior Center will have their annual Pancake Feed from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, featuring pancakes by the Village Inn. Advance tickets are $4 for adults; $2 for children. This includes all the pancakes one can eat, one sausage and one beverage. Milk, orange juice and sausage are 50 cents each.

Pat Roberts’ schedule announced

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas has announced his schedule for the second week of October including town hall meetings and special appearances.

In this area, Roberts will be at the Osage County Town Hall meeting from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. Oct. 9 at the Osage County Courthouse, first floor rotunda, 717 Topeka St., in Lyndon.

He also will be in Holton, Seneca, Hiawatha, Troy, Alma, Wamego, Marysville, Abilene, Winfield and Overland Park.

Enterprise offers special rate to cancer survivors

Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 1528 W. Sixth St., will offer local breast cancer survivors the special rate of $18.99 to rent a car on Friday, Oct. 12, with unlimited mileage in Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Reservations must be made by Wednesday. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Enterprise is having a day-long celebration on Oct. 12.

Free cookies and juice will be available at the Emporia store when the event gets going in earnest at noon. Four breast cancer survivors also will be on hand to talk about their recoveries. For more information, call 340-0109.

Local officials to League of Municipalities conference

Emporia Mayor Julie Johnson and city commissioners Bob Agler, Jim Kessler, Jeff Longbine and Kevin Nelson will attend the League of Kansas Municipalities conference Sunday through Tuesday in Overland Park.

City manager Matt Zimmerman, assistant city manager Mark McAnarney and city attorney Blaise Plummer will attend some sessions.
