A man convicted of attempted aggravated battery and conspiracy to commit robbery at the Ayan Restaurant, 728 East 12th Ave., was sentenced Sept. 26 in Lyon County District Court.
Clinton Peck, who was 18 at the time of the crimes, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on the battery charge with a concurrent sentence of 12 months on the conspiracy charge. He was placed on 24 months Community Corrections probation and ordered to complete the Labette Correctional Conservation Camp program, according to information from the Lyon County Attorney’s office.
The incident took place on Jan. 9 of this year, when Peck entered the restaurant with two other men about 1:20 a.m. The initial report stated that Peck, who allegedly was wearing a ski mask and armed with a rifle, demanded money from one of two Somali men who were in the restaurant at the time. Both men told police that they had been struck with the rifle.
The report said that one of the men grabbed Peck and took the rifle from him and a struggle ensued, involving the restaurant employees, Peck and the two unidentified men. The fight moved outside the restaurant, and the two men allegedly with Peck fled when Emporia Police Officer Tom Watts observed the incident and stopped to intervene.
Both Peck and one of the restaurant employees were taken to Newman Regional Health. Ambulance personnel treated the other employee at the scene.

LOL ralph. I don't know about brain transplants, but I think they do serious attitude adjustments, especially for ones who think they know it all.

Everyone in life makes mistakes and do things they wouldn't normally do in normal circumstanes. Ive known Mr. Peck since he was a child and he is a wonderul individual. He comes from a remarkable family who would do anything in the world for anyone. I am glad to say I am friends with these people. They don't deserve to be treated badly or persicuted for the actions of their child nor does their child deseve to have this held over his head for life. Mistakes aren't meant to show the world you are a bad person, People learn from their mistakes and don't repeat them. That's what makes us Human. Clint has goals and Dreams just like every 18 year old Boy.. And I have No Doubt that he will follow his Dreams when he gets home and will be an assett to this World. He is a very loving, giving man just like his family and I hope to remain in hs life forever. Shame on the rest of the community who feel they can play God and judge this family for a lack of judgement on their childs part. The best of Luck to you Clint. We will all be here waiting for your return. Your real Friends and Family are always just a phone call away. I am so excited to see what a strong wonderful man you will return as. God Bless and we love you....Mama B

When did "very loving" involve wearing a ski mask and demanding money with a rifle?

Touche bob. My sentiments exactly. Nobody is attacking his family, netebarr, but when you use a rifle to rob somebody, you are not a "wonderful individual," you are a low-down thief. Has it occurred to you that during all the scuffling that morning that some innocent person could have been killed? The one thing this kid does not need right now is an enabler!!!

In addition, there are a lot of 18-year old real men with rifles in their hands these days, only they're not here at home robbing a restaurant; they're in Iraq! They have goals and dreams too.
I repeat, netebarr, nobody is judging his family. Read more carefully!!!

What in the world does that have to do with the Peck kid robbing a restaurant? They were minding their own business, tending their own restaurant. They didn't ask to be robbed at gunpoint. You don't even make sense.

only in emporia can people sale and deal meth right next to schools, and yet the police are so blinded by things like kids smoking ciggerettes. yes i mean no one should go into a samollian restraunt with a ski mask but if those cops pulled of there superficial masks when it comes to the drug use in emporia, then maybe they can spend our tax money on drug prevention not drug protection

Mickey, what the hell are you trying to say here? Drug sales next to schools? Cops only paying attention to kids smoking tobacco? Cops only pretending to do their jobs? You're not very clear, Mickey.
But let me make this perfectly clear, Mickey. If you have evidence that drug sales are going down, no matter where, then you have an obligation to notify the police. Get that, an obligation. Your obligation is not to the police either; it's to the entire population of this town who would like to live in a nice, clean town. Get what I mean?
And please, it's spelled Somalian, not samollian. You say it like this: So MAH lee en. Half the people in this town mispronounce the name of these people and don't even care. It's time for a language lesson.

"netebarr," are you serious? It boggles my mind how you could think that a "wonderful individual" could commit an armed robbery and still be wonderful. You apparently have set the standard extremely low. As a matter of fact, from most of what I know about Clint this is really no surprise. This is exactly the behavior I would expect from such a delinquent. Always fighting, causing trouble, and having the police called on him, that's the clint peck I know. I think most people will agree with me. How long will you continue to be supportive as he jumps between probation, prison, and parole the rest of his life? Any wagers on his next conviction? Wait. I forgot. He's a "wonderful person" so I suppose he will spend every day in church from now on. Fat chance. Give us a reply when you get back to reality.

Okay... all you people that are saying all these things about clint, do you really know him? I am proud to say that i'm Clint's girlfriend. People make mistakes and people learn from them!!! We all make mistakes!!! Clint was not the only person there that night, but no one has done anything to them. Yes clint has made some bad choices in the past but do any one of you know him now? Clint has changed and grown up a lot since all of this has happened!!! By going to Labbette he is learning from his mistakes that he made that night. This will only make him a stronger person.

Oh my goodness, mama_05, what kind of thinking is this? "Clint was not the only person there that night, but no one has done anything to them."
Oh Boo Hoo. Misery loves company, little girl, and it sounds like you have a lot of growing up to do. That is the sort of thing that little kids say when they get caught doing something wrong -- "oh everybody else was doing it too."
The truth is, little girl, clint had better have enough of what it takes to serve his time without whining. Sounds to me like he has plenty of people on the outside to do his whining for him. That is called enabling, my dear, and if I were you, while he is in the joint, I'd go get some adjustments for my head. You need to learn how to stop being an enabler. Look what you're doing. You're protecting a wrongdoer. Let him do his time straight up, girl, and go get yourself some help.

I agree that mama has some thinking to do... Clint is obviously someone that doesn't seem to care much about his family or his own future. He is not someone I would be thinking about starting a life with.. Who robs a somalian at gunpoint? What decent human being robs anyone at gunpoint?????
Mama, you can do better.......TRUST ME. SOME people learn from their mistakes, but it sounds like this kid has had his fair share of situations to learn from....apparently he hasn't yet. If he hadn't been caught he would've felt no remorse I'm sure. Think about it !!!!!!

Alright Yall....Let me set the records straight...I have a baby by this young man and i would like to believe that he has changed. I was visiting him not that long ago and the Clint I left was definatly a changed person. I have known him on a personal level for well over 6 years and know what he has done and what he wants to do. Yes he was wrong in robbing the resturaunt but it wasnt just him and i think it takes a big person to take the wrath for the other young men that were involved. He is a good guy who took the wrong path. Everyone does stupid stuff in their life i think that there is way too much going on in this world for yall to be so wraped up in this. Its very obvious to me that you guys probably have not been out of emporia because if you have then you might focus your attention on something other then a 19 year old boy and his poor judgement. GET A LIFE!!!!

HisBabyMama, you telling us to get a life? The sad thing about your life is you really don't have one. You are young and you are stuck! No going out and having fun like other kids your age. On top of that, with the stupid decisions you've made, what kind of a life can you offer a child? The fact that you would even tell us to "get a life" tells me that you're still a kid using a kid's slang. That's sad.

bigearl, the other two ran off, the way i understand is a somallian inside the restaurant tried taking the rifle( or shotgun which ever) away from clint and they wrestled over it when the wrestling went outside a police car just happened to be going by and saw the ruckus. no one had called the police yet, that explains how two had time to leave while one got caught. theres a thought for the day, there are two teenagers still in town willing to rob a business, but havnt know the punishment yet.

And "create"...you really have a lot of growing up to do. You obviously don't know me either because yes i am young and have a child but when you have a child you no longer are stuck you gain room to grow...And in my defense i am a damn good mom and have a lot to show and teach my daughter so you dish out all the ignorant remaks you want to you are not hurting me.....and yes get a life because i am not the one on the emporia gazette webpage dwelling on what a 19 yr old guy did wrong in his lifetime i am on here defending my babies dad honor to ignorant people like you.

"Okay... all you people that are saying all these things about clint, do you really know him? I am proud to say that i'm Clint's girlfriend."
Kiddo, are you having a problem with telling the truth? First you're his girlfriend, now you're not in love with him and instead are in another state with some boyfriend who is caring for you and baby. Hell of a life! Cut the crap, girl.

babymama, i dont care how you are living, better than clint i can be sure. it s upsetting you to see things on this about you and really the easiest way to end that is to quit posting on here, when you post , someone will have a reply and it can be never ending. its too bad you didnt have a chance to start a family with someone who will own up to their responsibilites, give you emotional and financial support, and be there for your kids important events in life. my opinion ( and if you keep posting, you will keep getting opinions) any 18 year old who uses a gun to rob someone is a dangerous person, it says alot about what he will be in the future and you and the baby are better off being four states away from him. keep taking care of yourself and the little one and let clint take care of himself.

Hey there,
Though I'm not so proud to say it under these circumstances I am Clints' cousin. And I'd just like to say a few things about the situation:
1. Thank you for those supporting his family right now. Yes they WOULD do anything for him which sadly, may be encouraging his behaviour. But thank you, none the less.
2. To the other guys that went with him, "You idiots. Learn from this, get the hell out of Emporia and learn some more!!!" There is so much more to do with your life!
3. To his women... I feel you, really, I do. My boyfriend was just sent to jail on an open count of murder. I am NOT proud to say that I have anything to do with him. I've done my share of sticking up for him, I've heard all the "What were you thinking"'s I can handle. And still love him. But ladies - now is when you need to love yourself. Cause what good are you doing sticking up for him? He can take care of himself. And if he cant, hows he gonna take care of you? Take care of YOUR own good name.
4. To Clint - What the hells wrong with you?! You have it all! Friends, family, love, a good life. Take care of it! Before its all gone! I pray to GOD you get your mind right! Love you always.

And for all you poor bleeding hearts, save your damn breath and be glad that I have a family and a job where if I was too ,,let's say implement my own plan, I would be without a job and my family would definately suffer, so be very very damn glad that I don't know you either!!! why don't you open your pockets and home to these "refugees" or illegals that'll definately get you a spot on the highway to heaven!!!! i know! if someone else had done this they would get at least 20 years in maximum security prison, not a short sentence in a reform camp, i see you did not understand what i wrote, he got off light because his folks are respected in the community, this dont mean the community defends what he did. the only ones defending his actions are his misguided girlfriend and his family. i would have been happier know the little brat would be gone for 20 years everyone involved is lucky the robbery was interupted before someone could have been shot. he is not representative of everyone in emporia, he is one of few willing to rob a business, but if the poverty level here keeps rising, i fear the crime rate will also go up and we will all have reason to feel unsafe

When you steal from your parents then you will steal from anyone. many people will not believe this , but the truth is you are safer living in a large city because you are 1 of 1-2 million but here you are 1- of 30,000. Your chances of being shot , robbed or killed is higher here than in a larger city.
There will be more home invasions , robberies and auto burglaries due to Drug addicts will do anything for a High , even Kill
