L-Cat to order 2 new buses

Lyon County commissioners this morning authorized L-Cat supervisors to attend a Kansas Department of Transportation meeting this month to place preliminary orders for two new buses that will arrive in 2008.

In Wednesday’s Lyon County Commission study session, Doug Stueve, of the Lyon County Department on Aging, said the meeting will be on Oct. 15.

Stueve also told commissioners that the arrival of two new diesel-engine buses would complete L-Cat’s fleet. Stueve recommended cutting back to 13-14 passenger buses. This will give L-Cat flexibility and will be more economical to run because it’s a smaller bus. Stueve said the new buses should be able to handle two wheelchairs at a time along with other passengers.

The final prices for the buses have not been set by KDOT, Stueve said.

In other matters:

• Commissioners approved two zoning applications for agricultural special-use single family dwellings. One application was by Ron Barrett and other other was from Larry and Wanda Grimsley.

• Commissioners discussed an animal control agreement between Lyon County and the City of Admire.

• Commissioners discussed a joint purchase of a bariatric stretcher for the ambulances services. The stretcher is designed to be used with obese patients.
