EMS 7th-graders lose 1st-ever football game
The first competitive 7th-grade game in Emporia Middle School history did not go as planned for the Vikings, as they fell 14-8 to El Dorado at El Dorado.
After being stopped on their opening drive, the Vikings watched as a snap flew over their punter’s head and through the back of the end zone for a safety.
A fumble by EMS deep in its own territory led to El Dorado’s second score, making it 8-0.
On the ensuing kickoff, Kendall Stowe ran the ball back 80 yards for a score, but a penalty on EMS for a block in the back negated the TD.
The Vikings tied it in the second half, as linebacker Jackson Perez stripped the ball on defense and took it back 60 yards for an EMS touchdown. R.J. Kuhn ran in the two-point conversion.
EMS’ third fumble of the day led to El Dorado’s final score.
The EMS offense marched the ball all the way down to El Dorado’s 1-yard-line in the fourth quarter, but another fumble pushed the Vikings back, and they were unable to punch it in the end zone to tie it.
In the B-Game, EMS and El Dorado battled to an 8-8 tie.
EMS’ Michael Kitselman had a 30-yard run and also the subsequent two-point conversion.
