Lyndon Volleyball takes 4th at Silver Lake

The Lyndon volleyball team posted a 3-3 record last weekend to finish fourth at the Silver Lake Tournament.
The Lady Tigers fell to host Silver Lake in the first match before picking up three consecutive victories over Chapman, Royal Valley and Rossville.
Lyndon ended the tournament with losses to St. Mary’s and Jeff. Co. North.
“We came out down and finished down,” Lyndon coach Janella Newton said. “We played really well in the middle but just couldn’t finish up. It was a tough tournament, but there wasn’t a team there that wasn’t beatable.”
In pool play, Stephanie Goetz led the team with 31 kills, while Chelsea Schmitz had 16.
Cara Bolz added 44 digs, with Krista Banzhaf distributing a team-high 43 assists.
In the semifinals and consolation matches, Goetz again led Lyndon (19-4) with 10 kills. Bolz posted 25 digs, while Schmitz and Cierra Clark both served at a 100-percent clip.
Chase County volleyball winless over last week
The Chase County volleyball team finished with an 0-4 record last week, dropping decisions to Waverly, Madison, Wichita Trinity and Peabody.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Bulldogs lost 25-13, 25-13 to Waverly and a 25-18, 25-19 to Madison.
Against Waverly, Taylor Rains and Alli Clements contributed four kills each, while Allison Hartley had two aces.
In the nightcap, Kylee Scott posted seven kills, with Maci Wells and Ashley Cahoone providing three each.
On Thursday, Chase County fell 25-11, 25-19 to Trinity and 23-25, 25-14, 25-8 to Peabody.
Scott’s two kills led the Lady Bulldogs in the matinee, while Cahoone’s three kills and Robin Grokett’s three aces paced the team in Match Two.
Breanne Davis added 23 sets.
2 ESU runners earn MIAA weekly honor
Emporia State cross country runners Jonel Rossbach and Skyler Delmott both took MIAA Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts Friday at the ESU Invitational.
Rossbach, a senior from Omaha, Neb., shattered the Jones Park course record by 27 seconds, finishing the 5K race in 16:55.
Delmott, an Emporia High graduate, won the men’s race, running a personal-record 8K time of 25:20.
ESU volleyball team
remains at No. 23
The Emporia State volleyball team kept its spot at No. 23 in the AVCA coaches poll after going 1-1 last week.
The Hornets lost in five games to No. 7 Washburn on Wednesday before beating Missouri Western 3-1 on Saturday.
