Emporia State takes down Mo. Western

Led by 21 kills from Arica Shepard, the No. 23 Emporia State volleyball team defeated Missouri Western 30-23, 25-30, 30-24, 30-24 Saturday night at St. Joseph, Mo.
ESU fell behind 7-2 in Game One before putting together an 8-0 run to regain the lead at 12-10. The Hornets never trailed again in the game.
Western won 10 of the last 12 points to take Game Two, but ESU responded in the third game.
The Hornets got off to a 2-0 start with a kill from Shepard and service ace by Ting Liu. They never relinquished that Game-Three lead.
ESU also coasted in Game Four, taking the first five points on its way to the 30-24 victory and match-clincher.
Along with her 21 kills, Shepard contributed 16 digs and had a .222 attack percentage.
Megan Koster and Brittney Miller both contributed nine kills apiece, with Miller posting a .353 percentage.
Freshman setter Ting Liu had 49 assists.
ESU plays a home match against Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
