Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Emporia Masonic Lodge 12 meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Tuesday

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Etude Club meets at 1:30 p.m. with Mary Stauffer. Beth Thomas will talk about the Granada restoration project.

The Research Club meets at 1:30 p.m. with Barbara Hunter. Polly Sauder will give the program.

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday at Planet Sub, 2715 Candlewood Drive (across from Wal-Mart). The First Friday Feast is at 6 p.m. at the Roadhouse in Strong City. Information: Rufus Hobbs, 392-5780.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets at 6 p.m. in the Regency Room of the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50. Members will discuss the 2010 District Eight conference theme and fundraising goals for pecans and Casino Night.

Friday

The Emporia Area Retired School Personnel meets at 11:30 a.m. at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. George Abel of Emporia School District U.S.D. 253 will talk about “Trends in Education Today.”

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 1:15 p.m. with Augusta Shepherd. The program, “Managing Your Money,” will be given by Karen Sommers of Chapter DI. The official visitor from Kansas State Chaper will be Karla Jo Farmer.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the main terminal at the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport. Information: 342-3598.
