ECKAN needs volunteers
The Lyon County ECKAN office is initiating the Stepping Stone to Success Program beginning Saturday.
According to the press release, this program is designed to provide aggressive outreach and service planning to vulnerable and potentially isolated low income families throughout the county. In 2004, the ECKAN outreach staff completed advanced training in community case management. The release said that in the last three years ECKAN has been able to assist more than 900 elderly and disabled individuals remain in their own homes and have enhanced the employability and self sufficiency of 240 families.
Yvonne Johnson, ECKAN coordinator for the Lyon County Office in Emporia said in the release that “ECKAN can not do this alone. In addition to the partnerships with many local service agencies, we are planning to train volunteers to extend the reach of this effort.” Those interested in becoming a volunteer can call Johnson at 342-4607 or e-mail to: yvonne2johnson@eckan.org.
