Auction next week
Many items will be up for bid at the TFI Family Services Holiday Benefit Auction.
The auction will be Wednesday evening, with a social hour and silent auction at 5:30 p.m. and a live auction at 7 p.m.
Items up for bid include; two Air Tran tickets, anywhere Air Tran flies; an overnight package in Kansas City, including golf at Shoal Creek Golf Course; and a catered dinner for six.
Other items include holiday wreaths; decorated Christmas tree; original art work; and gift certificates to local restaurants and specialty stores.
Proceeds from the auction will go to fund items that are not financed by traditional funding for foster children. Last year’s auction helped fund the purchase of band instruments, a church field trip and GED test fees.

Zoning request
The Emporia State Federal Credit Union will make a request to re-zone a plat of land for an ATM machine in the area of 24th Avenue and Industrial Road during Monday’s Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Planning Commission.
The request is being made by the credit union and Re/Max Select Realtors. Angie Miller, manager of the Emporia State Federal Credit Union, said the site will be home to an ATM machine to serve teachers in the schools located near the area.
Eventually, the bank intends to open a small branch in the area, Miller said.
The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Monday in the City Conference Room in the Civic Building, 521 Market St.
