Turkeybiters

Turkeybiters are a long-standing Gazette tradition in which residents tell of their holiday plans.

Hoovers and Bazils

Margaret and Ned Hoover, 1727 Hammond Drive, and Gayla and Ken Bazil, 1486 Road 180, will be hosts on Thanksgiving Day. They will eat at noon at the country club, then watch TV, play board games, watch football and eat sandwiches that evening. Some football will go on during the day as well as swimming.

Guests will be Betty Gibb of Sterling House; David, Linda and two children, Matt and Cody, of Minden, Nev.; Gary Gibb of Reno, Nev.; Neyse Klucken of San Diego, Calif.; Aimee and John Filipponi of Costa Mesa, Calif.; Briant Gibb and son Aaron of Sparks, Nev., Dwight and Phyllis Greenlee of Wichita; Mark and Julie Shader and son Dalton, of Austin, Texas; and Amanda and Austin Bazil and sons, Pierce and Porter, of Lincoln, Neb.

The Thomases

Jim and Carol Thomas , 2914 Prairie St., are celebrating Thanksgiving Day at their home with family and other guests. The group will be eating, catching up on news and “playing at least one game of Nertz.”

Those attending will be Ron and Kathy White of Richmond, Va.; Jeff, Elizabeth and Will Thomas of Wayzata, Minn.; and Stacy, Barbara, Kyle, Mark, Brad, Erica and Nathan Thomas of Park City. Also, Matt and Jennifer Spencer of Ada, Okla.; Mike and Kelsey Thomas of Manhattan, Tara Spencer and Aiden, along with Adam Siems, of Leavenworth.

The Schultes

Bill and Janice Schulte, 2066 Fanestil Drive, will have their children and grandchildren as guests for the Thanksgiving weekend. They will have the “traditional turkey dinner” on Thanksgiving Day.

Guests will be Dr. Steve and Laurie Schulte, Brenna and Claire Schulte, of Auburn, Neb.; and Scott and Amy Schulte, Elizabeth, Brent and Suzanne, of Overland Park.

Schaefer family

Larry and Beverly Schaefer will be hosts for Thanksgiving dinner at their rural Emporia home. It will also be a celebration of the 90th birthday of their aunt, Mary Dorring, and nine-month-old great-grandson Shae’s first Thanksgiving.

Those attending will be Mary Dorring and Dan and Sue Hopkins and Caitlyn of Lenexa; Drue and Lisa Smallwood and Shae of Tulsa, Okla.; Steven and Andrea Bazan of Lancaster, Texas; Mike and Debbie Rice and Kathryn and Eileen Rice of Wichita; Joseph and Teresa Schneider and Jake of Holton; Nicholas and Jennifer Schneider and Rose and Nathan and Laura Schneider of Lawrence; Matt Wolters of Topeka; John and Pam Wolters and Nick and Peter Wolters, of Midwest City, Okla.; John and Carol Schaefer and Dan and Connie Coble of Emporia.

The Horrell family

Marianne Dixon of Emporia will prepare the Thanksgiving turkey and dressing, potatoes and gravy, for her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Brett and Angela Wilson and Teghan, and her sister, Judy Price. Guests will bring the “fixings.” On hand for treats will be the Vizla-mix, Reddy, and cats, Katzie, Nebbie and Loco. Later, the family will call Marianne and Judy’s brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Jan Horrell, who will be in Maryland with their son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters, Steve and Kate, Savannah, Madeleine, Josephine and Amelia Grace.

On duty

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department will have Thanksgiving dinner prepared by Janet Emler, kitchen superintendent, for staff and inmates. Dinner will be sliced turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, whole wheat rolls, green bean casserole, impossible pumpkin pie and coffee.
