Farewell reception
The Lyon County Extension Office, 618 Commercial St., will hold a public farewell reception for Kelly Whitfield, outgoing family and consumer science agent. The reception will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 27. For more information, contact the extension office at 341-3220.
Card shower
Friends and family request a card shower for Edna Gilligan Madsen, who will celebrate her 95th birthday Nov. 28. Cards may be sent to her at the Holiday Resort, 2700 W. 30th Ave, No. 402, Emporia, KS 66801.
Christmas assistance
The Salvation Army will continue taking applications the next two weeks for Christmas assistance for Lyon County residents.
Applications will be taken Monday through Nov. 30 and again Dec. 3 through 7. The hours are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. each weekday and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the afternoons, except Tuesday, when the office at 327 Constitution St. will be open until 5 p.m.
Applicants need to bring a photo ID, proof of all income, Social Security cards for all household members and proof of everyone in the home. More information: 342-3093.
