The smell of turkey and all the fixings filled the air at Hetlinger Developmental Services, 707 S. Commercial St., Monday morning.
More than 100 people, including clients and staff, took part in the second annual Thanksgiving dinner at Hetlinger. Around 11:30 a.m. Monday, a long serving line formed down the hallway. The tables were filled with turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and many sides to choose from. For dessert, there was pumpkin pie. One of the turkeys was donated to the dinner and was won in KVOE’s Gobble Contest, said Stacy Flanner, communications and public relations assistant for Hetlinger. One of the clients from another location called in, won and donated the turkey. The other food was purchased from Reeble’s Country Mart.
Several clients left the serving line happily eyeing their food all the way to the break room, where they sat down and chattered with the other clients and staff.
“This is just an appreciation for the consumers,” Flanner said. “Just a thank-you for all the hard work they do.”
Flanner said Hetlinger tries to do things for clients throughout the year. As Christmas nears, clients will be able to participate in crafts and other activities. They also had a Halloween party this year.
