Tuesday

• The David Traylor Zoo of Emporia will light up Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. when Peyton and Harrison Oden flip the switch on holiday decorations at the compound. Carolers from Emporia State University will perform and hot cocoa will be on sale.

• Emporia State University’s Albert Taylor Hall will be filled with music at 7:30 p.m. for the percussion ensemble. Call 341-5431 for more information.

Wednesday

• Lyon County commissioners will only have one meeting this week. The meeting will begin at 8 a.m. in the Lyon County Commission chambers on the first floor of the Lyon County Courthouse.

• Emporia City commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. in the Municipal Court Room/City Commission Room, 518 Mechanic.

• Emporia High School musicians will show off their talents in the Emporia High Shool Jazz Band & Viva Voce Concert at 6 p.m. in the Emporia High School commons area. Call 341-2365 for more information.

Thursday

• Come hungry! A community Thanksgiving dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, 502 W. 12th Ave. No charge and no donation required. To have meals delivered, call 342-3999. Meals also can be eaten at the church.

Friday

• The Emma Chase Cafe in Cottonwood Falls will host “Old Timey Rock & Roll/Vintage County Music” gig at 7:30 p.m.

• A contra dance will be at 8 p.m. in Cottonwood Falls as a part of the Chase County Christmas. The dance will be at the Community Building.

Saturday

• Christmas comes early for Chase County this weekend! The Chase County Christmas is taking on a cowboy theme this year. The festivities start in the morning and run all day, ending with the annual lighting of the Chase County Courthouse. Activities will include a blessing of the animals, several children’s cowboy-themed activities, a fruitcake toss and a visit from Santa Clause.

• Chase County also will be the site of a Holiday Homes Tour. The tour will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the site and includes admission to all four locations. Call the Chase County Chamber of Commerce at (620) 273-8469 for more information. This year’s tour includes stops at the Duehn Ranch home at they Flying W Ranch near Clements; St. Anthony Church at Strong City; Pioneer Bluffs on the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway; and the Beverly and Jerry Hedrick Home east of Strong City.
