4 Spartans recognized as Class 5A All-Staters

Four Emporia High soccer players were named to the Class 5A All-State teams, with three earning first-team honors.
Midfielder Adrian Trujillo, defender Brandon Heavener and goalkeeper Spencer Anderson all were named first-team selections. Emporia High tied Mill Valley for the second most first-team selections with three each, while St. Thomas Aquinas and McPherson led the way with four first-teamers apiece.
EHS defender Joey Sanchez picked up second-team honors as well.
9 Spartans named to All-Centennial League football team
Emporia High saw nine of its football players pick up honors from the Centennial League after helping the Spartans to a 6-4 record and a State playoff appearance this fall.
Running back Edd Noonan and linebacker Ryan Bass capped their stellar senior years with first-team All-League honors. Both players were two-way players for EHS this season. Noonan also played linebacker, and Bass saw time as an offensive lineman.
Three Spartans were second-team selections: Senior Troy Pierce as an offensive lineman, sophomore Mark Kolmer at linebacker and junior Cord Stanley as a defensive end.
Kolmer also was an honorable-mention pick at running back, while junior quarterback Taylor Euler, junior offensive lineman T.J. Heins, sophomore center Danny Goodman and senior defensive back Brandon Childs also picked up honorable-mention selections.
