Elected at state level

Sarah Tidwell, a faculty member at Emporia State University’s Newman Division of Nursing, is the new vice president of the Kansas State Nurses Association.

An active member of the association, Tidwell currently leads the Legislative Committee and is a registered lobbyist for the group. She has been a member of the board of directors and the American Nurses Association House of Delegates.

Tidwell, who earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Marymount College and a master’s in nursing at the University of Kansas, is an assistant professor at the nursing school.

Top rookie

Katie Dorsey of Emporia was named top rookie instructor by the National Cheerleaders Association. She is the daughter of Dr. Robert and Dee Dorsey.

New face at Maurices

Taverli Orr is the new store manager at the Emporia Maurices in the Flinthills Mall.

In a news release, Maurices said that Orr is responsible for day-to-day store operations, including sales performance, visual presentation and recruiting and training personnel.

Good start wins award

Shane Doudna, a Farm Bureau Financial Services agent in Emporia, is a winner of the Elite Blue Vase Award, an honor given to Farm Bureau insurance agents who have excelled in production and service during their first 90 days as an agent.

In a news release, the company said the award indicates new agents’ success “in helping to provide financial security to members of their community.”

Doudna is also a coach for Americus Recreation.

Staff join

Home Health

Susie Roach, a licensed respiratory therapist for 21 years, is the new manager of Home Health Care Center in Emporia. Roach worked for 19 years in the respiratory department of Newman Regional Health.

Another licensed respiratory therapist, Diana Crook, is also on the center’s staff, serving as customer service representative. Crook has 35 years’ experience working in the Emporia medical community.

They join Nathan Drake, patient-service technician, and Katie Taliaferro, respiratory clinician, at 1302 W. 12th Ave.

Meets in Las Vegas

Jack Cassell of Brooke Insurance in Emporia, is back from the Brooke Franchise Corp.’s third annual convention, which met at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas.

Cassell and others at the gathering heard from Dick Vermeil, one of four coaches to lead two different teams to the Super Bowl. In a news release, Cassell said Vermiel’s leadership experience gave insight on customer service and standing out in the community.

“I think we all walked away with a new understanding, both from a Brooke business standpoint and an overall insurance industry point of view,” Cassell said.
