Vaccine available
It’s not too late to get a flu shot. Lougene Marsh, executive director of Flint Hills Community Health Center, said about 400 doses of flu shots were still available this week at the health center.
“With the holidays coming and families getting together, it is important to protect those you love from the flu by getting your flu vaccine,” said Renee Hively, of the health center. “Good handwashing and staying home when you are sick are great ways to keep from spreading this illness.”
The vaccine is available 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the health center, 420 W. 15th Ave. The cost is $20. Cash, check, Medicaid and Medicare will be accepted as payment.
Lighting the zoo
The Emporia Friends of the Zoo will hold its “Happy Holidaze” lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia.
In the past, the ceremony has been held Thanksgiving evening.
Peyton and Harrison Oden will flip the switch to light the zoo, which has been decorated for the holiday season. The children’s parents, Ryan and Deb Oden, won the privilege by being the highest bidder at the Emporia Friends of the Zoo’s annual fundraising auction, where it was offered for sale.
Carolers from Emporia State University will perform and hot cocoa will be sold at the event.
