Planning is well underway for the 6th annual benefit auction sponsored by the Flint Hills Technical College Foundation. The auction raises funds that will support the efforts of the foundation as it assists technical college students with scholarships and educational opportunities.
As honorary hosts of this years event, Brian Lewallen and his team at Detroit Diesel Remanufacturing — Central states in a letter of support, “Statistics show that the overwhelming majority of people seeking jobs today and in the future will need advanced training or certification in a technical or skilled field. Industry in Emporia is competing in a global market for that skilled labor force. At a time when the demand for technical training and skilled labor is increasing, Emporia must stay on the cutting edge in order to sustain our industry.”
Lewallen continues, “Three years ago DDR-Central was faced with a dilemma. Our company had many new product opportunities, but lacked technically qualified team members to support the new business. We wanted candidates who were not only qualified, but who were passionate about their career path. After our recruiting efforts for experienced machinists provided limited results, DDR-Central formed a partnership with FHTC to develop talent locally. The relationship with the FHTC has proved invaluable and has allowed us to support our new products and has created over 45 employment positions, both technically qualified and non-qualified.”
