7 ESU Football players receive All-MIAA honors

Seven Emporia State football players were honored with All-MIAA distinction, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Hornets had no representatives on the league’s first team, and sophomore cornerback Travis Lee was the lone ESU player on the second team.
Wide receiver Sean Partridge, tight end Paul Nichols, offensive lineman Josh Koerkenmeier, defensive linemen A.J. Brinkman and Lance Claibourn and linebacker Blake Ringwall all were given honorable-mention honors.
Northwest Missouri State swept the top three awards, as Mel Tjeerdsma won coach of the year, running back Xavier Omon took offensive player of the year and linebacker Jared Espamer won defensive player of the year.
Missouri Western quarterback Drew Newhart was the league’s freshman of the year.
