Activities and entertainment ranging from an immigration forum to a hay giveaway are offered this week in the Emporia area. The annual National Teachers Hall of Fame auction will highlight the week’s offerings.

On the week’s schedule are:

• The Emporia State University women’s basketball team will take on Tabor University today at 7 p.m. in W.L. White Auditorium. More information may be had by calling 343-4257.

• Organizers have made it easy to take part in the 16th annual NTHF fundraising auction, scheduled Wednesday evening. Anyone who wants to bid can watch the auction on Cablevision Channel 20, listen to it live on KVOE-AM, or attend a silent auction and watch party at Bruff’s Bar and Grill, 2640 W. 18th Ave. Merchandise valued at more than $14,000 retail will be auctioned at the 16th annual event, which runs from 6:05 to 10 p.m. Bids can be called in to 342-1400 or 342-5863.

• The economic and social impact of immigrants will be discussed at an immigration forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Emporia Public Library. ESU professor Rob Catlett will be the speaker. The forum, which is open to the public, is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Emporia.

• Several performances by the Emporia State University Theatre troupe are scheduled during November and into December. “The Trojan Women and Lysistrata” will perform Wednesday through Saturday and Nov. 28 through Dec. 1 in Ronald Q. Frederickson Theater on campus. More information may be had by calling 341-6378.

• The Friends Together United Methodist Preschool will continue its Usborne “Reading is a Gift” project, being held in the church parlor, 823 Merchant Street. Tuesday through Friday, books may be purchased from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. and from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45. Purchases also may be made between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

• The Emporia board of education will meet at 7 p.m. at the Mary Herbert Learning Center, 1700 West Seventh Ave.

• Hand-in-Hand Hospice’s advance directives clinic will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Sponsors say to allow 15 minutes for the drop-in advisory sessions at the hospice office. Information will include how to secure a durable power of attorney, set down end-of-life wishes and other plans.

• Messiah Lutheran Church’s annual Harvest Home Festival will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Anderson Building. An Usborne book sale will be held in conjunction with the festival. The book sale is being held for 4 Paws for Ability, a service dog organization, to secure a dog for Andrew Smith of Olpe, who has autism.

• Pet owners who need hay or straw for bedding for outside dogs and cats may go to the East Side Veterinary Clinic between 8 a.m. and noon on Saturday. The hay has been donated by Walter and Helen Tredway.
