We would like to thank all the wonderful people who helped in the emergency treatment of our dad, Bob Burnell, on Oct. 7. You could call it luck or you could say it was the blessed intervention of the Lord who made sure that on the day dad experienced cardiac arrest as he attended church, quick-thinking friends and a multitude of medical personnel were all very conveniently present to provide vital medical treatment that literally saved his life. Those first few minutes made all the difference.

It is not luck, however, that there are so many dedicated, skilled people who are willing to choose health care service to others as their career. It is indeed our (the public’s) good fortune. From the church, to the ambulance, to Newman Hospital, to the flight crew who flew dad to Stormont-Vail hospital, he received excellent care, from devoted caring people whose concern was obvious.

We watched at Newman as everyone quickly and skillfully worked together to care for dad. The EMTs, after making sure dad was stable in the ER, took the extra time to lend comfort to our mom. The flight crew was skilled and compassionate and helped calm our fears, despite the fact that they very frequently fly critically ill patients to other facilities, and it is probably not extraordinary to them. Words cannot begin to express our gratitude to each and every of you.

Your dedication and skill assured dad’s recovery, and although dad says “God wasn’t ready for me yet and threw me back!” we are all convinced God decided he has many more happy years ahead to care for all the grandchildren he loves so much.
