Red Ribbon awards given at Guys ’n Gowns event

Three awards given by Emporians for Drug Awareness recognized an individual, business and local church for their work during Red Ribbon Week. The awards were given during the Nov. 3 Guys ’n Gowns fund-raiser.
Amanda Stice, theater director at Emporia High School, received the individual award for her work providing drug awareness skits to elementary schools through the Spartan Educational Theater. She also helped organize a mock drunk-driving accident at the high school.
Aron Dody of D&C Sounds picked up the business award. Dody has provided music for the Keep It a Safe Summer event the past four years. More recently, he provided music for the Guys and Gowns event.
First United Methodist Church earned the faith community award for its youth group’s involvement in drug and alcohol prevention. The church also has made available its building for training and other services of Emporians for Drug Awareness.
