School news

• Today — High school basketball practice starts today. Junior high basketball with Waverly at Hartford, 5 p.m. Board of Education meeting at the board office in Hartford, 7 p.m

• Wednesday — Early release for the students at 12:30. Coaches will let team members know when to come back for practice.

• Thursday — American Free Enterprise Day. Junior high basketball at OIpe, 5 p.m. Kansas Honors program at Emporia State University 6:30 p.m.

• Friday — High school basketball boys and girls scrimmage at the high school. The Lettermans Club will be serving a meal before the scrimmage. Check the Web site or call the school at (620) 392-5515 for times.

Library news

This week, through Sunday, is Children’s Book Week/Kansas Reads to Preschoolersl. The goal is to read to every Kansas child through 5 years old during the week. Get a book and read to the little ones.

• Tuesday — Story hour with children learning and reading about safety, 9:30 a.m. Library board meeting, 2 p.m.

• Thurdsay — Kathleen McKinney Whitmer and Jean McKay will give a presentation and sign copies of “Chroncicles of The Farm Woman,” 2 to 4 p.m.

• Friday — Maisy the mouse from the books by Lucy Cousins, visits the children at the library, 9:30 a.m.
