Today
The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.
The Reading Lions Club meets at 7 p.m. at the Reading Community Building.
Tuesday
The Flint Hills Regional Quilt Guild meets from 9 a.m.to 2 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month at the Lyon County extension office, 618 Commercial St. Entry is from the alley. The program will be given by Sue Blubaugh of Prairie Pieces. She will talk about the market she recently attended. The December meeting will include a gift and cookie exchange.
The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.
P.E.O. Chapter HY meets at the First Presbyterian Church. Sam Dicks will give the program, “Immigration in Lyon County.”
Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday in November at Bad Ol’ Bern’s, 20 Commercial St. Information: Rufus Hobbs, 392-5780.
The Kiwanis Club meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Commander’s Room at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.
The Emporia Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association meets at 6:30 p.m. after dinner at the Best Western Regency Gardens Restaurant, 3021 W. Highway 50. Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.
The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave. Betty Richardson will present the program.
Altrusa International of Emporia meets at the home of Sharon Linhart. Corbin Timperley, winner of the Young Writer’s Award, will be a guest.
Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meets at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.
Friday
P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 1:15 p.m. at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Mary Melhorn will present the program, “Ancient Civilizations in Mexico.” Mary Ann Schaeffer will give the projects report about “Sunflower Grants.” Special guests will be all P.E.O. members who are residents at the Manor.
Saturday
The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday in the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport.

The Flint Hills Chapter of the Old Time Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers meets from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Emporia Recreation Center, 313 W. Fourth Ave. Music is provided for dancing. Admission is by donation. Visitors are welcome.
