Lyndon sees season come to an end with 55-7 loss to Pittsburg-Colgan

Saturday, November 10, 2007

The area’s hopes for a State football title ended Friday night, as the Lyndon Tigers ran into the buzzsaw that is Pittsburg-Colgan, falling 55-7 in the quarterfinals of the Class 2-1A State playoffs.

Lyndon simply could not handle Colgan’s passing attack. Colgan quarterback Kenny Wachter threw for 291 yards on 13-of-15 passing with no interceptions and three touchdowns.

In all, Colgan out-gained Lyndon 463-208 on offense. Lyndon’s lone touchdown did not come until the third-quarter, as Jeremy Testerman hauled in a 32-yard pass from Keene Niemack for the score, but by that time, Colgan led, 41-7.

Colgan got out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead on the strength of two Tino King touchdown runs from 2 and 8 yards out.

Wachter then started his assault on the Lyndon secondary, tossing second-quarter touchdowns of 15 and 21 yards while running for another score to make it 35-0 at halftime.

Colgan scored again out of the locker room, this time on a 68-yard TD pass by Wachter than made it 41-0 after the extra point failed.

Testerman then gave the Tigers their lone score of the game before Colgan capped the scoring with two more rushing touchdowns.

Kade Neilson rushed the ball 20 times for 107 yards to lead Lyndon’s ground game. However, the Tigers only completed 3 of 6 passes for 54 yards, a TD and two interceptions.

Lyndon also fumbled six times, with Colgan recovering five.

Lyndon ended its season with a 10-2 record, while Colgan moved to 12-0 and advanced to play St. Marys in the semifinals next Friday.
