Above and beyond

I Am writing to express my gratitude to two of Emporia’s police officers. On Oct. 19, I attended the live band performance in the parking lot at Seventh and Merchant. While the music was very good, the volume was such that I removed both my hearing aids and placed them in my pocket. After the concert was over, I arrived home and realized I had lost my hearing aids. I returned to the parking lot with my flashlight to search for them.

Officer Willie Turner and another officer, whose name I failed to get, were on duty there and joined me in my search. When we did not find them, I returned home to see if I had overlooked them there. While I was at home., another officer came to my door to inform me that Officer Turner had asked him to notify me that my property had been found. I returned to the parking lot and Officer Turner told me they had continued to look after I left, and he had found both hearing aids still in working condition. He had located me by being alert enough to jot down my tag number as I was leaving.

I feel both officers went beyond the call of duty and I am truly grateful to again be able to hear conversations more easily and to hear the birds again.

Thank you very much.

It's so nice to finally hear someone say something positive about law enforcement in this town. It seems like they only get recognized when something goes wrong. I truly admire law enforcement and all that they do for us. There's so many things they do that people aren't aware of.

I'm happy that you found your hearing aides and that you are able to hear the wonderful things this world has in it. Thanks to those two officers that went beyond the call of duty to help you. Most people would have just left when you did and figured it a lost cause.

What a great story to hear about our dedicated police officers. Too often we hear the negative. Best of all, you were thoughtful enough to pay them the honor of recognizing their service.
